When you combine popular Disney songs and ice skating, immediately you've piqued our interest (especially with a two year old!). But then when the ice is lit on fire and there's aerial acrobatics, we're going to tell the whole world how awesome of a time we had at the Disney on Ice: Frozen and Encanto show in Syracuse, NY!
You won't catch us being shy about loving Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and the whole Frozen experience, "Let it Go" still stands the test of time 10+ years later. And then we liked the Encanto movie, so there was no doubt in our minds that this particular show was going to at the very least have some fun songs to sing along to and be something we could enjoy as a family. What we didn't realize, as people who have never been to Disney on Ice before, is the level of talent and choreography that goes along with the stories and songs. Throughout the nearly two hours of the show, there was always something happening on the ice (besides the intermission) - perfect for our limited attention span toddler.
The singing, dancing, all the different characters that came out, everything was very well timed, rehearsed and just fun to watch. We also appreciated that although this show was Frozen and Encanto themed, they still found a way to weave in some of the classic Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, and Goofy. Our daughter gave a very loud "QUACK" to Donald!
The first half of the show was all Frozen. They had skaters dressed as all the major characters and even more of them for background (the cast was fairly large!). They played all the popular songs, did really an abbreviated version of the movie, and made everything come to life right on the ice. A special shoutout to the performer who played Kristoff who at one point did a full front flip right over the sled prop they had. Every part of the Frozen section was really enjoyable and at that point we were thinking, "Wow, how can it get better than that?"
But it did! After a brief intermission (where we scored some toddler-approved chicken tenders and fries) they started Encanto. Which again, we liked the movie, but definitely didn't love it as much as Frozen. Well, what Disney on Ice did for Encanto was nothing short of incredible. At one point they lit the ice on fire (yes, real flames!) and the performer playing Isabela spent most of her time doing aerial acrobatics from mainly a wrist strap. For us, she really stole the show and took the event from a nice thing to bring your kids out for, to something that people of all ages who appreciate Disney should go see.
We had a blast at Disney on Ice: Frozen and Encanto, so a special shoutout to Feld Entertainment for the tickets to see it live. We may or may not have already looked up when the show is coming back to Syracuse!
